PM WARNS PAKISTAN: In a tough message to Pakistan, Prime Minister Atal 
Bihari Vajpayee on Wednesday declared that the time had come to wage a 
"decisive battle" against cross-border terrorism. Addressing troops barely 
25 kms from the Line of Control, Vajpayee said there was a limit to India's 
tolerance of the proxy war. (PTI report in GT)

CONG COUNTING ON SONIA: Congress president Sonia Gandhi's public address at 
the Campal grounds today is expected to hold major significance in 
determining the vote bank of the Congress in the State. With the major 
party leaders from across the country pouring into the State and holding 
public functions, Sonia's address will play a decisive role, opined a

SONIA UNFIT TO RULE; ANWAR: All India Congress president Sonia Gandhi is 
not an Indian citizen by birth but enjoys acquired citizenship, and hence 
is not eligible to become the prime minister of India in future, said 
Nationalist Congress Party national general secretary Tariq Anwar 
yesterday. He has also predicted that there will be fractured mandate in

PARRIKAR FLAYS DIXIT, TYTLER: Reacting to statements made by Delhi Chief 
Minister Sheela Dixit, former Union ministers Jagdish Tytler and Kamalnath 
of the Congress Party, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar stated yesterday 
that these leaders, who have a bad track record in their own states should 
not preach to BJP and Goans about the concept of good governance. (GT)

"MINORITIES TOTALLY EXPLOITED": "Minorities were not being taken seriously. 
All the more, the Gujarat riots and certain local incidents (not just the 
Socorro Muslims prayer hall arson but two other unreported incidents) had 
led me to review my relations with the BJP...I still feel he (CM Manohar 
Parrikar) has adminstrative abilities and discipline. But certain 
compulsions of politics perhaps influenced his decision-making process. The 
zeal with which he started his tenure, specially his fight against 
corruption and other illegalities, has almost died out." (Soter D'Souza,

BJP SUPPORTERS ASSAULT CONGMEN: The Curchorem constituency remained tense 
yesterday, following the assault of three Congress workers by the BJP 
workers. One of the assailants happened to be a brother of the BJP

Services, has been honoured with the Bharat Gaurav award along with a

Administration, SN Tripathi, the allegation that a particular Hep B vaccine 
is banned is baseless, since they would have been informed immediately

LIC DIRECTED TO STOP ISSUING DSSS CHEQUES: Life Insurance Corporation has 
been directed to stop issuing cheques under the Dayanand Social Security 
Scheme till June 1, 2002. The instructions were issued yesterday by the 
Chief Elector Officer after investigating into receipt of various 
complaints that cheques were being distributed by candidates in a bid to 
woo voters. (H)

Candidate" programme at Mapusa's Hanuman Theatre yesterday evening, 
promised not to defect to any other party if elected to the forthcoming 
legislative assembly. Congress candidate, Armindo Braganza, was not

cement products have introduced RCC pipes of 30 cms diameter, 45 cms

the chief electoral officer to take action against the screening of

the semi-finals of the Siolim-Marna Panchayat Cup soccer tournament in 
Siolim. Sangolda Lightning Club entered the semi-finals of the Saligao 
Villagers Trophy soccer tournament, defeating Batim Youth Club 8-7 via the 
sudden-death, in Saligao. CRC Chinchinim outdid Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, 
5-3 in an exciting final to clinch Chinchinim Villagers Trophy soccer title 
at Chinchinim church grounds. ICSC Paroda defeated Macazana Welfare Club by 
a solitary goal to win the Guirdolim Villagers Cup soccer tournament at 
Chandor grounds. Maina Sports Club, Curtorim, defeated Friends XI, Vaddem, 
2-0 to move into the semi-finals of the Nerul Panchayat Cup soccer 
tournament at Nerul. Challengers Sports Club, Peddem-Lolyem, defeated 
United Boys, Palolem "A" 3-2 to move into the finals of the all-Canacona 
9-a-side Jack Memorial soccer tournament. Curtorim Gymkhana defeated St 
Rock Youth Club, Calata-Majorda, 2-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the 
Fr Robert Vaz Memorial soccer tournament, in Navelim. Mesta Bhatt "B" 
thrashed DJ Moloca 5-0 in the Merces inter-ward soccer tournament in
