HSSC RESULTS TODAY: The results of HSSC examinations conducted by the Goa 
Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Alto Betim, will be 
declared at the office of the Directorate of Education, Panaji, at 11 am 
today. The results will also be available on the internet at the same 
timing. A total of 11,451 students had appeared for the examinations held 
in March. (GT)

CAMPAIGNING ENDS TODAY: Campaigning for the assembly elections which 
reached a feverish last stage pitch during the last few days, will come to 
a halt today at 5 pm. All parties tried to round up their campaign with a 
series of meetings in constituencies important to them as also use of loud 
speakers to reach voters in every nook and corner of the State. BJP, NCP 
and Congress Party had requisitioned the services of their veteran leaders, 
Union ministers, former ministers and some chief ministers of neighbouring 
states to add luster and punch to their campaign. (GT)

ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS: Despite the short time they got for campaigning, the 
BJP and the Congress Party have built up a good momentum in North Goa in 
their attempt to improve their tally. The campaigning ends in South Goa 
with quite a bit of suspense about the outcome of the May 30 elections. 
Candidates of all parties found the popular mood not very enthusiastic and 
as a result they had to use all the weapons in their baskets to attract

SPORTS CITY IN SANTA CRUZ OPPOSED: Expressing their opinion at a "Know Your 
Candidate" meeting organised by the Voters Council at Santa Cruz on Sunday, 
six of the 11 candidates in the fray in the Santa Cruz constituency opposed 
the setting up of the sports city in its present location in the khazan

D'SATISH TO PREDICT ELECTION RESULTS: The president of the Goan Magicians 
Guild, Magician D'Satish, and its secretary Magician Dandrake, will predict 
the results of the Assembly Elections to be held on 30 May. The prediction 
will be done today and sealed in front of the media and kept in the safe 
custody of a Bank. (GT)

DEMOCRACY OR HYPOCRISY: "I do not know if it is a sheer coincidence or 
deliberate decision of Election Commission to fix up the polls on the 15th 
anniversary of Goa's Statehood Day. Unfortunately, there is a general 
tendency in the people to ignore the importance of things, which are 
presented to them on a platter. No surprise, there are practically no

ZUWARKAR GETS CLEAN CHIT: Former chairman of Goa State Co-operative Bank 
and outgoing Taleigao MLA, Mr Somnath Zuwarkar, has received a shot in the 
arm on the eve of elections, with the Director of Central Registrar of 
Co-operation, Government of India, giving him a clean chit of having no 
liabilities of any sort in the affairs of the bank. (NT)

BAILANCHO SAAD SCREENS "HEY RAM": Bailancho Saad on Monday screened the 
controversial "banned" film "Hey Ram" in Panjim yesterday. According to a 
press release issued by Saad, the film has been allegedly proscribed by the 
State's Chief Electoral Officer Arvind Ray. The film was screened after it 
became clear that no written order, instructions or gazette notification 
has been issued by the Chief Electoral Officer prohibiting the screening of 
the film. (H)

POMPOUS GOVT SERVANT: An over zealous Weights and Measures inspector 
confiscated a weighing scale of Robert Colaco, a prominent businessman from 
Tivim, for failing to verify and stamp the machine on time. Colaco, who is 
closely associated with the Nationalist Congress Party, had told the 
officer that he did not posses the certificate as on two occasions when he 
visited the Department's office in Mapusa, either the office was closed or 
the inspector was not in his place. (H)

WATER SCARCITY: The locals of Tikhajan-Mayem has complained about acute 
water scarcity in the village. It is learnt that the area receives water 
through the public water system once every fortnight. (NT)

RESTRICTED WATER SUPPLY: There will be restricted water supply for Bardez 
and parts of Bicholim taluka, due to the frequent power supply interruption 
at Assanora Water Works and Podocem, Sanquelim, till the improvement in 
power supply position. (NT)

COPS ON LOOKOUT FOR RUDOLF: About 25 police personnel and central reserve 
police personnel on the lookout for former NSA detenue Rudolf Fernandes, 
stormed his residence at Santa Cruz on Sunday night, and later on Monday 
morning, but failed to nab him. DIG of Police, Karnal Singh, informed the 
reporters that the police have received oral complaints against Rudolf, 
alleging that he was threatening voters in Santa Cruz. (H)

FREE EYE SURGERY: The cases of cataract will be operated upon by 
specialists from Sankara Eye Hospital, Coimbatore, at the Salgaocar Medical 
Research Centre, Chicalim. The patients from the villages of Kuncoliem, 
Kundaim, Mardol, Mangueshi, Veling, Priol, Keri, Bandora, Kavlem and 
Madkaim needing to undergo surgery may contact the respective village

27 INJURED IN SATTARI: As many as 27 persons were injured, three of them 
seriously, when a tempo they were returning in from a marriage ceremony, 
plunged into a ditch at Rajgyachi Kond in Velguem-Sattari on Sunday 
afternoon. (H)

SET RESULTS: Out of the 487 candidates who had appeared for the State 
Eligibility Test (SET) held by the Poona University on February 24, the 
following candidates of the Goa Centre have qualified, subject to the 
fulfillment of eligibility conditions laid down for the test: 18665, 18677, 
18689, 18694, 18726, 18746, 18775, 18792, 18823, 18825, 18826, 18933,

Cassandra Barua of Red Rosary HS, Miramar, crossed the Mandovi river from 
Divar to Ribandar jetty. Vanessa covered the distance in 15 minutes and 
Cassandra crossed in 20 minutes. (GT)

FOOTBALL: Calangute Association drubbed PVC Parra 3-0 to advance into the 
finals of the 10th Nerul Panchayat soccer at Nerul grounds. Curtorim 
gymkhana trounced Ambelim Sports Club 3-01 and entered the semi-finals of 
Fr Robert Vaz Memorial soccer tournament at Rosary Grounds, Navelim. Parish 
Youth, Nuvem, defeated CAC, Cansaulim 2-1, to earn a berth in the finals of 
the Anjuna Villagers' Cup Soccer tournament at Anjuna Gymkhana grounds.  (NT)
