The underlying service is not gone. There is a JS error in the JavaScript wrapper. So perhaps it will get fixed. However, the deprecation of the Web Search API was announced publicly three years ago. Per the TOS, the service has been maintained, but it is now very near its sunset date, after which I would absolutely not rely on the service for a production website. You will want to come up with a migration plan to move your site to the Custom Search API or some other option, or to discontinue the search functionality altogether.
