As one helpful recommendation which you might not be aware of, I can link to SendGrid's documentation on their free tier <https://sendgrid.com/free>, which is awesome in the amount of quota / features when compared to even the free tier of the App Engine Mail API, so do consider checking it out if you're concerned about costs.
