Thanks, I used the apache commons and that looks like it works well. At the moment I'm only base64 encoding those messages that would have otherwise thrown an exception due to containing "]]>" as base64 encoding will increase the size by roughly 30%. Since I am looking at close to 700GB worth of e-mail to migrate keeping it as small as possible will help keep the migration time shorter, hopefully.
