[snip] Though you've received an official answer, I just wanted to point out that as of the current version of Subversion, 1.6.0, passwords can now be cached in a secure manner on Linux, as has already been possible on Windows and Mac OS X for a few versions. Subversion also now warns you before storing your password in plaintext.
