I'll just note that "installed", rather than "in use", is correct.
Window managers like openbox or xmonad offer gnome/kde integration
functionality, where they run the background services expected by
gnome/kde apps. I believe this background service set is enough to get
at least the Gnome keyring to work, no matter what window manager you
are actually using.
