simply put, yes.

Now, what you should do is look for programming languages on wikipedia, look
for java, python and all these and see which one sounds good to you, or
looks good to you.

Good luck, and please please please, do NOT learn programming just for the
competition, competitions come and go, but the pleasure you get out of
letting computers do things for humans will always be there.
