Hi everyone,

Sorry for the delay in giving you a final answer. We had to discuss both
the intended policy and technical viability of each option.

*Regarding permitted software:*

We will provide an image with preinstalled software. Finalists should have
already received an email with our current list. You will have both
internet connection and the ability to plug in a USB drive right before the
contest, and permissions to install additional software before the contest
starts to use during. You can also copy prewritten code or whatever you
want to use. Everything you install and all code you use has to comply with
Code Jam terms & conditions, so it has to be your own code/software OR be
freely availably for anyone to use.

You do have to unplug your USB as it counts as a non-Google provided device
and it's therefore not permitted during the contest.

We will provide tech support on the software we install only, so if the
software you install causes trouble, it's on you. If the trouble is because
of some incompatibility with our own installed software, the hardware, our
network configuration, or anything else, it's on you. We will provide tech
support on a best-effort level, but if you install your own stuff, we can't
make any guarantees. Also, any software that you install must not interfere
with the contest in any way, and must not produce any networking traffic
during the contest. The only traffic your workstation can send or receive
through the network during the contest is through the Code Jam site, and/or
through things we install and you don't use manually.

*Regarding 2-factor login:*

You can use your phone to log in before the contest start and just stay
logged in during. I do suggest that you print out some rescue code in case
you get logged out, because you can't turn on your phone during the
contest. Alternatively, you can switch 2-factor off during the contest,
potentially changing your password if it makes your account more secure.
You will be able to revert back to your original settings after the contest
is over. We ask you to please not change the settings during the contest
time, though, as accessing those could be construed as an attempt to use
the network for something other than competing.

Please, feel free to write with more questions or clarifications if you
have them. And of course, keep practicing, have a safe travel and best of
luck in the finals!

Best,
Pablo, on behalf of the Code Jam team
