var prefs = new gadgets.Prefs();

is the first thing that is executed in my gadget. The gadget is working on
the iGoogle page but in the gadget preview tab it will fail with

gadgets.Prefs is not a constructor

I have seen threads about this failing also in other places where gadgets
can be previewed as old as 2008. Now it is 2011 and the API is still not
supported in all places on all the google websites, although there are
already older versions of the API already declared as deprecated. Is the
entire iGoogle thing no longer under active development? Are we now stuck
with an already deprecated old API and only a half implemented new API?

Reminds me of some of my own old projects after I lost interest for some
reason: Left in some half-baked state until fallen into oblivion. Is this
entire iGoogle thing dying? Not many Google officials in this official
iGoogle dev forum anymore also as it seems.
