Thanks for your reply. I'm still seeing the same behavior
even after setting the DBID to "null", though. After starting
picasa, the modified file is overwritten with its old version.
I've also tried creating a new album, putting one image into
it, closing Picasa, then editing the pal file contents by adding a
new <filename>blah.jpg</filename>. When I re-start Picasa
the file reverts to its original state, with only a single image.
Maybe Picasa for Windows behaves differently? Could
the problem have something to do with timestamps? I notice
that the pal file contains a "date" property.
