Hi Israel, gotcha, I was assuming you were talking about in debugging mode. I never use the design view in Flex so I didn't even consider it, good to know a solution for that exists though and you found it, thanks for posting the information, the community appreciates it :). Only problem with that solution is what happens once they actually provide the url to override your built-in file:// property assignment, do they now have the same problem in design view, just something to consider, perhaps there's just a need to document that this is expected behavior and the maps will fill in when running in debug mode.
