Remember what you have out of GGeoXml is not the original xml .. GGeoXml never has that ... it gets sent to the google servers and converted in to json to allow cross platform access.
One complication I have found with rss feeds .. the sources change there feed format periodically. What part of the feed do you want access to so that you can customize the icons...
