Sorry, It was not really intentional, I forgot to tell you the
application is targeted to Firefox. I may make it work for IE but now
I am pretty much concentrated on the business logic rather then
browser compatibility.

Regarding doctype I haven't been able to find the right one so far. I
tried:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd";>

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
   "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd";>

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://
www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

All of those broke the layout. I will study it a little further.
