Just to clarify this, *both* as used in the Maps API, eg
GMap2.getCenter is synchronous, and GDirections.load is asynchronous

The difference is, many of the calls that are synchronous in the Maps
API, are in fact asynchronous in the Mapplets API. So much so that
nearly all the *.get* methods are asynchronous.
