Hi,

I've tried to use GMapCreator to create the tile overlay I need, but
it won't output the labels for the polygons.
The software called TNTmips has some very nice auto labeling capabilities...
you might want to investigate their TNTmips Free / though it is datasize
output restricted in the free version. It now has a TNTmips Basic version
which has fewer restrictions.

I use the professional version, I'm not sure the size of output you are after
(but for the tiles Pro might be needed) the auto labeling feature lets you
choose parameters from the tables to act as weighted priorities for labels
and can prevent labels from nearby label elements overlapping one another
I seem to recall this component was considered a real selling point but I haven't used too many others to
compare with. There are quite a few parameters involved
but you can even get more down and dirty use a script (they have
at least one sample script)
