I don't know to what feature you are referring. There has never been a
API feature to access My Map data.

However My Maps have KML exports which can be used directly with
GGeoXml (still) - and also other KML parsers. Similarly there is a RSS
feed from My Maps which could be used in the same way.

There is also an actual Maps Data API, which exposes write
functionality (as well as Read) to a "My Map". This was fairly
recently released. Its not well publised but there is a Javascript
client library.

Also note that 'Mapplet' is a small application coded to function on
Google Maps website, it uses a API which is functionalty very similar
(but not identical) to the Maps API. You sound to be using the term in
a different context.
