Firewall changes of themselves won't cause a key error. Domain change
perhaps? Are yousure it is a key error, what is the message?

> Unfortunately, the google page for generating a new key does not work,

Unless the domain has changed, it won't help.

generator does work but it is often reported that people get into in
an endless loop with it. Is that your problem with it? Clearing all
Google cookies from the browser seems to help.
