Live should never underperform compared to dev or you risk assuming that live will work as well as dev when it can't. You are providing kml to Google. They are building tiles based on that specification. Part of building those tiles involves getting your icons to use as markers. How do you infiltrate Google's servers to change how they use your KML? Nowhere in this thread have you provided a link to your map so we can actually see what's going on, though.
