These helped me a lot to understand the limits of the KML/NetworkLink/
SuperOverlay in Google Maps, and since I've changed strategy:

Hopefully future GMaps versions can handle KML refresh issues better,
which would allow GEarth SuperOverlays to function properly with their
structure of Network Links.

Instead, a custom map type is most likely the right solution in my
case-- I'm building an historic map browsing interface and I
definitely need "deep zoom" capabilities.
