One advantage of using a tile server is you can add some security to your tile requests.
In my experience, anything not protected will eventually be abused by someone or something. Adding a simple layer of security, such as a key code or even a simple algorithm like Google uses, will keep the unauthorized from abusing your bandwidth and intellectual property. Of course, anyone sufficiently motivated will figure out how to bypass any security measure but by doing at least a single level of security, you're indicating you don't want to be abused and that often is enough to keep the problem under control. -John Coryat -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Maps JavaScript API v3" group.
