I get an error with google.ads in both your urls. However, it does look like the API geocoder can't locate Orange, France, although the last attempt here gets nearest: http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/xml?address=orange,france&sensor=false http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/xml?address=orange,provence&sensor=false http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/xml?address=orange,vaucluse&sensor=false Even adding bounds specifying France doesn't help: http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/xml?address=orange,france&sensor=false&bounds=42.1331639,-5.9820520|50.0380022,10.4095500 The API geocoder is different from the Maps geocoder.
