That was my question.  I guess you have to authenticate every time you run 
a class to access. The sample code is not a good example since for newbie 
like me a full working sample would go along way.  Google samples do not 
give you a full Java sample of authentication with the api 
sample getting list of spread sheets.  It a sample of authentication and 
api access spreadsheet list.  but not combined.  Since neither will compile 
as they are sown on Google API sample code.  Will go back and try again. 
 If I could get one sample working authentication and api access...  I 
could starting coding my test application I want to build.  just a 
little frustrating....
