Yes, as I said just now in another thread, it sounds as if the presence
subscription states got out of sync. Sometimes it can be difficult to get
them back in sync. This matters for messaging with Google Talk users because
Google Talk won't let a Google Talk user chat with a contact on another XMPP
server unless the contact is in the Google Talk user's contact list (in XMPP
we call it a "roster") with a proper subscription.

Well that is strange. I think it should affect only the users who are out of
sync. But I don't know enough about exactly how Google Talk is implemented
to answer your question.
