**One Request and One Suggestion** I am new to this forum, so forgive the double post.
**Request** Would be nice to allow pinyin to character to English translation and the option to translate pinyin directly to English. **Suggestion (previously posted)** May be the Google Translation team can deploy a page crawler to load translations from http://www.visualchinese.com/themewords/wordbank.aspx This is a data bank of Mandarin translations given from native speakers. **If you have any other ideas to improve the Mandarin translator, feel free to post it here and hopefully the team will read it.** TL On Jun 6, 11:27 pm, Josh (Google Employee) wrote: > Hi Matt, > > I'm not 100% clear on the problem you're having, but it sounds like > you may be translating some Chinese characters that we don't have a > good translation for (sometimes a person or places name), in which the > best translation we can give is a transliteration of the characters, > i.e., writing in English how the Characters would sound in Chinese > (this will be pretty close to pinyin). > > If you can give me specific translations you're finding problematic I > can look into it further. > > Cheers, > Josh > > On Jun 6, 2:34 pm, matt scott wrote: > > > because i couldnt figure out how to reply to a previous post i am > > creating my own. i apologize for my computer illiteracy. > > > i am trying to translate chinese to english. when attempting to > > translate chinese characters, the result is the pinyin equivalent of > > said characters. when i type the pinyin into the 'translate' box i > > get nothing, except the exact same word/phrase, in pinyin, of which i > > am searching for translation in the first place. > > > translation from chinese characters to pinyin is immeasurably useful, > > especially to a 'westerner' living in asia. but, characters to pinyin > > translation doesnt do a whole helluva lot if one doesnt understand > > pinyin. > > > barring the very real possibility that i fail to understand, and > > properly use, the translation program, i suggest you put some peeps to > > work on making the 'chinese-to-english' translate tool ACTUALLY > > translate the one language to the other. > > > hugs & kisses, > > > -m. > > > p.s. > > IF, as i suspect, my troubles are 100% attributable to USER ERROR, and > > one of your kind underlings could point me in the right direction i > > would be forever grateful. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "General" group.
