Hi, I have been working with Google translate now for two years intensively. Mostly focusing on translating small words and sentences that are part of a website translation list.
I'm working with English, Spanish and Portugese and I've noticed that the English-Portugese translation is often a lot better than the English-Spanish translation. In the sense that the most logical translation usually pops up in Portugese and the Spanish translation is often convoluted. This is surprising given the fact that Spanish is so much bigger than Portugese and it's very similar in terms of grammar. In fact, sometimes it's so bad that I'll translate from English to Portugese and then use the translated Portguse to translate to Spanish. Which can give a much better result.
