Guy at Google Developer's Day in Moscow claimed that there are no plans regarding Gmail integration as they have completely different data structure, but he also said that technically it should be possible.. Also, I agree, it would be crazy not to do this, I don't see any other way, how they could get Wave to Replace email (instead of being just another way to communicate).
