That's correct, Michael. There is no Note data object in the CCR standard, although there is a section called Plan of Care which could handle brief free text notes, and some have used it that way, and it is also possible to add links to documents and images. However, the CCR standard was designed for structured summary data primarily, to maximize computability.
This is extensible markup language. If the industry calls for it, we could place a more formally designated data object for Notes in v2.0, which would then allow for Profiles to specify types of notes. However, this would also considerably blur the distinction between the CCR standard as a summary health record in structure XML from other formats, e.g. PDF, Word, the CDA from HL7, etc. Personally, I think that keeping the CCR standard very simple is important to its value in the marketplace. Adam Bosworth thinks the CCR standard is already too complicated, and the v2.0 should simplify it, e.g. get rid of the Actor data type. DCK David C.
