           Summary: YouTube Format (fmt) Option
           Product: gPodder
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: feature request
          Priority: low
         Component: Application
        AssignedTo: [email protected]
        ReportedBy: [email protected]

YouTube has the ability to select different file formats and file sizes using
the fmt option in the URL. It would be nice to be able to select the format
that gPodder downloads. For instance, format 22 for high definition (720p).

The Python command-line tool youtube-dl could be used as a basis for this
functionality. It has a -f flag to select a format, and also an ingenious -b
flag that progressively selects lesser-quality formats, starting at format 22
(HD) and all the way down to format 0 (normal quality) until it finds the
highest format that that particular video is available in.

Of course the default that currently stands (if I'm not mistaken, format 18
which is native to iPods) would remain, but an option in the app (most likely
advanced options) to either download highest quality or a specific format would
be nice to have.
