Then the problem was probably with your iPod not being "initialized" correctly, i.e. you have to create the initial folder structure and iTunesDB files with a tool like "gtkpod" first before being able to use gPodder with the iPod. After that, it should work :) If not, that's probably a bug and needs to be fixed.
