Agreed. I like that. Can we assume all current Linux Desktops have
libnotify installed? If so, can we hard-depend on python-notify? I
don't want to have users coming back crying saying that they have not
been informed about a problem with the download.

We could surely somehow position the notification bubble on the header
of the "Downloads" tab, so that it looks as if the downloads tab was
talking to the user.. like "I have some errors here.. please have a
look!". Of course we have to work on the wording ;)

Having said that, I think we might discuss some other technologies that
can be considered mainstream now that we might want to use for gPodder
(D-Bus, etc...) in the near future - in another thread here.
