GPSD users, developers, et alia:

First, I want to thank Gary for all the effort he did put into helping me to try to get my GPS functioning with gpsd and I wanted to say that publicly.

I am at a point where gpsd is listening to the GPS port at 9600 baud, I believe I do not have a PPS connection to the GPS and am simply desirous of using the time from the gps sentences to set my laptop's clock. Using cgps and gpspipe it has become abundantly obvious to me that the GPS gets a fix and is aware of the time. I need only now to interface this to chronyd (presuming my GPS has no pps output notwithstanding a /dev/pps0 existing).

I tried adding the line as follows hereupon to my gpsd.sources file, but it had zero impact and chronyc sources remained blank. I did create a sources file with usno network sources that did work, so chrony works and I used gpspipe to test gpsd, but they seem unable to talk to each other.

One not on my 3-year old version of gpsd (my current version from Debian repositories is 3.25 not the current 3.26 version.

I contacted the Debian maintainer for gpsd and asked why the latest version of Debian Trixie had a three year old version of gpsd therein. He indicated that the Debian Trixie code freeze occurred before the latest drop of gpsd and thus it was not inclusive thereto. He did say he would get the current version into unstable, testing, and then perhaps into Trixie but there was an issue. Apparently gpsd used libraries more current than those inclusive to Debian Trixie and that was part of the problem. If anyone is interested, I can send you the response and explanation this man sent me along with his email address if anyone has questions for him. I was told that the best thing to do was either switch to unstable or testing (I loath the idea of that) or just use the version they have currently.
 Very Respectfully,
