I don't use Debian, so no joy.  What should I do with it?  Merge it?

This seems to miss the point.

Why not use the scons command to free the shared memory?

I do not run Debian, so I do not get a vote, but I find the one here
 gpsd-3.27.5/packaging/deb/etc_default_gpsd is much better.
