Or extrapolate that one further and you have something similar to the Color selection Cube in Grasshopper allowing the Z value to be brought in.

For instance, if you wanted to rotate an object in 2 directions at once, you could set the 'X' of the matrix space to be 0-10 and control one rotation, while the 'Y' of the matrix board could be set to -10 to 5 and control another rotation. You simply drag a dot around on it. If it was implemented, it could have a dedicated X slider at the bottom of the matric and a dedicated Y on the side, so you could do independent moves if needed.
