As a substitute teacher, I use an online service that displays position openings at the local schools. These openings come into the system all day long, submitted directly to the site by the schools themselves. In this economy the competition for these openings is fierce and you almost have to be watching the screen full-time to be able to respond to the openings before other job seekers scarf them up. With firefox add-ins I can set the "openings" page to reload automatically. This is pretty good because I can leave the room or simply look away to do other work and check back periodically to see if there are any new postings. But in the current job environment, I miss a lot of openings to other people who stay closer to their screens. I would like to have more of a life than "working" and then "being tied to a monitor looking for more work." Is it possible to create a script which triggers an audio signal whenever there is an "openings" page content change (which would mean a new job has been posted)? If I can hear the signal I can respond immediately.
