*PLEA FOR HELP*
In October 2009 two sisters, Jawaria Atique and Samar Atique, became victims
of a *vicious* *acid attack* by two men near their home in New Delhi, India.

In this most gruesome assault, a jug full of acid was thrown on Jawaria and
Samar’s faces severely damaging their facial features, arms, hands, upper
torso, eyes, internal tissues, nerves and blood vessels. Along with deep and
serious burn injuries, both sisters have completely lost vision in both
eyes. Needless to say, the damage is also psychological - affecting the self
esteem and confidence of both the young women who were financially
independent and active contributors to the household income before the
attack.
*While the legal battle for justice for Jawaria and Samar has begun, the
need for medical attention is urgent and immediate. Hence this appeal.*
Right now, both sisters need to undergo a series of tests, and treatment
that includes eye re-construction, maybe eye implants, skin grafting, flesh
re-construction, cosmetic surgery for facial re-construction including nose
and lips, post operative care, counselling and rehabilitation. This process
is going to be long, and the costs at present are being estimated in the
range of Rs. 100,00,000/- (1 Crore) or US$ ,2,15,000/- before they can hope
to start rebuilding their lives.
Of course, this is a high target for us to meet, hence we are also
approaching Charitable Institutes for financial support. But those processes
take time, and four months since the attack, help is most urgently needed to
start the medical process. And that can only come from us.
The family is itself not financially well off and has had a major setback in
their earnings since the attack, not to mention that they are currently
bearing monthly medical expenses of nearly Rs. 1 lakh (Approx. US$ 2,000/-)
just for wound dressings and medicines, etc.
