For two decades, Abdul Nazar Maudany has been imprisoned. He was one of the greatest orators that I have known. Nobody from the left or right could replace his oratory skills. If you organise a meeting anywhere in Kerala and say that Abdul Nazar Maudany will be speaking in that meeting, I can assure you that you will get an audience of minimum 2,000 people with just 2 days' notice. He is a victim of terrorism of the RSS. They destroyed his leg. He is a victim of negligence and arrogance of the Parappana `Agrahara' Jail in Bangalore. Here is a human rights defender who defended not just the rights of religious minorities, but also of Dalits, Adivasis and even the rights of those who are struggling in Koodankulam, POSCO and against AFSPA in Manipur.Political parties have not done that job. He had to struggle for permission to visit his dying mother. The public prosecutor has done everything he could do to block even this minimum rights of an almost blind man with one foot with several health disorders that the Indidan State has created on him. But why? The only reason is: 1: He is a `Muslim', 2: He is not an ordinary `Musim', but he is also a `Muslim spiritual leader', 3. He is not an ordinary `Muslim spiritual leader', but he also speaks about the rights of other marginalised sections is society also. It is high time that the nation wakes up on this grave human rights violation of a human rights defender. For this issue remains as a shame for Indian democracy and the implementation of Indian Constitution for two decades. And if you don't wake up today, mind you, you will be the next target.
