[The "disputed land", on which the Babri Masjid had stood, since 1528, till
demolition on December 6 1992, has been allocated, to the body floated by
the VHP, for the construction of a Ram Mandir.
The Sunni Waqf Board, the custodian of the Babri Masjid, is to be provided
a piece 5 acre land elsewhere, as a compensation.
The traditional Hindu entity has just been brushed aside.

The Allahabad High Court, it may be recalled, had divided the land equally
into three pieces, to be allocated to the above three litigants.

《A five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court today (Saturday)
allotted the disputed Ayodhya land to the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas. The apex
court ordered allotment of an alternative piece of five acres of land to
the Muslims for a mosque. The Bench, headed by Chief Justice of India
Ranjan Gogoi, said the Hindu litigants were able to establish their case
that they were in possession of the outer courtyard. It added that the
Muslim side was unable to prove their exclusive possession of the inner
courtyard. The apex court has directed the Centre to frame a scheme under
which it will constitute a body within three months to hand over the inner
and outer courtyard to the Ramjanmabhoomi Trust. It said the Sunni Wakf
Board would be granted five acres of land in a 'suitable, prominent place
in Ayodhya'.》

The allocation of the land for building the Ram temple is on anticipated
lines.
No real surprise here.

While this is, obviously, a grand victory for the VHP/RSS/BJP, on the flip
side, this *limits* the scope for triggering violence, in the immediate run.
That's important if one considers human life as valuable.

What's, of course, important to note how the SC has tried to cover its
track.
That has, at least, some significance.

Where there's a significant gap, in terms of ideology, between the "state"
and the "society", the possibility of the "state" bowing down to the
"society" becomes pretty strong.

The "gap" was graphically brought out by the huge bestial violence
perpetrated, and suffered, by all the three major religious communities -
the Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs, in the run-up to, during and post-Partition,
in order to carve out Pakistan as an exclusive Muslim/Islamic state.

It was a sort of miracle that yet "India" became a "secular" state.
A miracle that was anchored in the values espoused by the epic Indian
freedom struggle.
But, then, it foisted upon a non-secular society.

In the following days, the secular forces have collectively failed to take
due advantage of the "miracle".
To make the "society" adopt "secular" values.
The forces of darkness, as a consequence, are spreading their tentacles.

That's the harsh reality.]
