So sad! For quite a while, had close interactions with her and also Bharat.
Her first writings, in the pages of the EPW, that I can recall date back to the mid-seventies - a running debate between her and Amalendu Guha on the ongoing ethnic turmoil in Assam. She is also an important contributor to the debates over the class character of the post-Independence Indian state and also mode of (agricultural) production. She did forcefully back the movement led by Sharad Joshi. Had the first glimpse of hers in the early eighties, in Bombay. I'd, however, get to know her in person much later - with the first close encounter in the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. A very nice and friendly person, with no airs - whatever. My heartfelt tribute and condolences.
