Dear Philip,

I was was in the same boat. One of the key things for me was to distinguish
between the .gabc file, with its syntax and typesetting engine, gregorio, and
the .tex file, with its LaTeX and gregorio package syntax and typesetting
engine, LuaLaTex. TeX-Live is really just the manager for installing and
maintaining the TeX software, as far as I can tell. TeXworks is one particular
interface with the TeX software.

If I had to say something about the website, however, it is that, at least when
I was learning it last winter, these distinctions were not always immediately
clear to me. I did not realize at first that there had to be two files, each
with different functions, and determining which syntax was for which file was
not clear, either. Time obviously makes these distinctions clear, and the
email usergroup is the best way to learn the software (for which I and I bet
many others are grateful).

A great benefit is that now you also have TeX, which is a great program to
explore on its own. I use http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX to learn how to
use it, along with web searches for specific issues.

I am sorry I am unable to provide specific help where to start at this time,
but I will try to take a moment to offer my recollections of the process that I
went through.

Best,
Conor Cook
