Conor is right about the second problem. Gregorio can't find the first
character of the score because you don't have any text. Modifying the
header will prevent it from looking for the first character in the first
place.
For the first problem, I assume you need the (z) at the end because you
want the line to stretch all the way to the margin, as it isn't needed
otherwise. When you do this, however, you trigger the custos setting
algorithm. I can suppress the appearance of the custos but can't get
rid of the space allotted to it.
To suppress the custos, add the following to you header:
def-m1:\greblockcustos;
and change the final (z) to ([em1]z)
Ideally suppressing the custos should get rid of the space allotted to
it, but I'd have to look deeper into what's going on to figure out how
to fix that and don't have the time right now. If no one else comes up
with a solution in the meantime, I'll try to remember to look at this
again tomorrow.
