It *is* technically possible to have a different shape when alone and when part of another neume, not that you should do that, just something to keep in mind, if it helps. ... And from a different email, regarding homogeneity of the punctum ascendens figure, I am not necessarily implying that ascendens and descendens should be mirror images of each other, but rather that the overall flow of the figures should harmonize with each other. I guess it's sort of a font-weight thing and a shape thing, like how a good text font looks good around itself: the shapes have the same weight, slant, "feel," etc. Finally, you should also know that I greatly appreciate your efforts in this regard.
