Another option is to verify the font file (with the ttf extension, a.o.) with some font editor like fontforge to check whether the diacritical accent is present or not. You can even edit the font in that way to add the glyphs you are missing.

I'm using Minion Pro for a score, and when I use that code only an œ appears without an accent. I assume this is because the font doesn't include an accented œ glyph. Is this correct? Is there any way to force one to appear somehow, or do I just need to use a different font?
