My apologies for the confusion. I thought I had double checked the
tutorial against 4.2's changes, but apparently I didn't.
The culprit, as Sr. Ruth indicated, is the new bar spacing algorithm
which is (and is supposed to be) the default. In general it looks
better, but obviously this is a case where that doesn't hold true.
Indeed, this has been noticed before and we're currently working on a
`<clear/>` tag which should help without requiring changing global
settings (see https://github.com/gregorio-project/gregorio/issues/1029).
In the meantime I'll pencil in some time for fixing the tutorial this
weekend.
