Aye, I think they do, and that's why we deprecated them. I think Karl
implemented those years ago.

This is based on JNI, but (if I'm reading the forum posts correctly)
has a pure Java interface. It even has a dummy implementation for
non-Mac targets.
What do you think about including them in 1.3? Here's the ticket:

Do any of us know enough about java to be able to maintain it?
Rudy had the idea to basically make multiple bindings to gntp at some
point for 1.3 or post 1.3, so that it's all the same protocol. If that
sounds like a good idea, I don't know that I'd want to introduce the
forum jni one you link to and then rip it out shortly afterwards for
what we'd end up wanting anyhow.
