Do any of us know enough about java to be able to maintain it?
I know I don't.
Rudy had the idea to basically make multiple bindings to gntp at some point for 1.3 or post 1.3, so that it's all the same protocol. If that sounds like a good idea, I don't know that I'd want to introduce the forum jni one you link to and then rip it out shortly afterwards for what we'd end up wanting anyhow.
It's an interface with two implementations, so a third (or a rewrite of the existing second) is not out of the question.
That said, I'm no longer backing the existing Mac implementation, because I just looked at it and it's using NSDistributedNotificationCenter, not the GrowlApplicationBridge.
I still like the idea of a Java interface with a JNI+Cocoa implementation, but this isn't a JNI+Cocoa implementation I want to ship with Growl. I would be OK with shipping one that uses GAB in the Cocoa part.
