I've discovered a bug in GrowlMail 1.2.2 running in Mail 4.4 on Mac OS
X 10.6.5. (Yes, i edited the UUID line to get Mail to recognize
GrowlMail in 10.6.5.)
Here is the GrowlMail bug:
- GrowlMail will show notifications just fine for any messages that
are manually received (i.e. user clicks on "Get Mail" button, user
right-clicks on the Mail dock icon and chooses "Get New Mail", user
runs an AppleScript to trigger "Get New Mail", etc.). This all works
fine... GrowlMail works as expected. No problems.
- HOWEVER, as soon as you change your Mail preferences
(Mail>Preferences>General>Check for new messages) from "Manually" to
any of the automated options ("Every 5 minutes", "Every 30 minutes",
etc.), GrowlMail no longer shows notifications anymore when new
messages come in automatically.
- In other words, if Mail is AUTOMATICALLY checking for new messages,
GrowlMail does NOT give its notifications. However, if the user
MANUALLY checks for new messages, GrowlMail DOES give its
notifications.
- Please note that all of my testing was done with Mail running as the
background application. Mail was NOT the foreground application for
any of my testing. And yes, I also have the option selected in
GrowlMail to "Only notify when Mail.app is in the background".
