How did you determine that GrowlHelperApp is causing your “crashes”?

These are not directly related to your graphics card. All of the positioning 
math is done on the CPU.

Did your addition of the graphics card change the display geometry? I.e., do 
you now have an additional display connected, or a bigger display you couldn't 
have before, or is your display geometry unchanged?
