Growl shows all computers that are on the network; you cannot change this 
behavior and probably wouldn't want to (imagine accidentally removing one of 
your own computers that you wanted to set up forwarding to).

If that machine is in the list, then it is on your network.

If it's your own private network, look into securing it. Turn on WPA, if it 
isn't already on, and set a password (or a stronger password).

Also note that some networked printers show up as machines on the network. I 
can connect to mine via FTP and upload a text file to it to print its contents.
