So, another developer with a 10.7 box confirmed this is actually an issue for 10.7. We are working on a fix and it will be fixed in Growl 2.1 when it ships in the nearish future. Sorry for putting you through all those steps, that type of control behaves poorly with autolayout on 10.7 and somehow that had slipped my mind, and it slipped by our testers.
